Related processes is a feature that links multiple processes together to represent an entire business workflow. This article summarizes the types of relationships that can be configured and their specifications.
Overview
There are two ways to use Related processes.
- Link "Upstream processes" from the Start Node and "Downstream processes" from the End Node
- Link "Related processes" from an Execution Node
Specifications
Where settings can be configured
- Start Node detail sheet … Upstream processes
- End Node detail sheet … Downstream processes, and parent processes that reference this process
- Execution Node detail sheet … Related processes
Constraints
- Settings cannot be configured for unsaved processes or Execution Nodes. They become configurable after saving.
- The same relationship cannot be added more than once.
- Circular references are not allowed. A process cannot reference itself or any of its child processes as a related process.
- Sequential relationships (linking before and after) and nested relationships are mutually exclusive. A process that is already set as one type will not appear as a candidate for the other.
Display
- Linked Related processes can be viewed directly on the process diagram without opening the detail sheet. Clicking a Process Name opens it in a new tab.
- When there are Unsaved Changes, a confirmation dialog is displayed before navigating away.
- In Swimlane view, related processes are shown as a count badge to avoid disrupting the lane layout.
- Related processes are not subject to Version control. They are not displayed when viewing a past Version.
